Bartłomiej Szewczyk, Director of the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze

A graduate of the University of Silesia, he graduated in history. From the beginning of his professional career, he has been associated with the operation of voivodeship and local government cultural institutions. For many years professionally associated with Zabrze. Initially as the head of the Strategy Department of the City Hall, from 2011 as the Director of the Historic Guido Coal Mine – from 2013 – the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze. As the Museum Director, he successfully implements projects related to revitalization, granting new functions, sharing and popularizing the valuable industrial cultural heritage of the voivodeship. It manages two post-industrial complexes unique in Europe – the Guido Mine and the Queen Louise Adit. The ground infrastructure, revitalized under the management of Bartłomiej Szewczyk (over 30 facilities in 4 locations in the city) and underground infrastructure (including over 10 km of routes in underground, mining workings with still operating machines), are the basis for extensive educational, tourist and cultural activities, The scale of which allows to place the Zabrze cultural institution among the largest mining museums in Europe. Confirmation of recognition on the national and international arena is a number of prizes and awards granted, inter alia, to by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage or the Polish Tourist Organization. One of the most important awards is the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award awarded in 2019 by the European Commission and the Europa Nostra Association, awarded for the process of model conservation and revitalization of the Luiza Adit.
